Proverbs for Young Men to Live By

Dear Y.B.M.:

Over the years, the Book of Proverbs in the Bible, has been a book that has helped me with many practical things in this life. May I encourage you to read this book at least twice a year. The Book of Proverbs has thirty-one chapters. Why not get into the habit of reading one chapter a day? The truths contained therein will help you greatly in your life. Here are just some of the key verses that have been a great help to me over the years:

“A wise man will hear, and will increase learning, and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels.” – Proverbs 1:5

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6

“Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase: so shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.” – Proverbs 3:9-10

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.” – Proverbs 4:23

“Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.” – Proverbs 5:16

“Go to the ant thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.” – Proverbs 6:6

“Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned?” – Proverbs 6:27

“Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.” – Proverbs 12:22

“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.” – Proverbs 18:22

“Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.” – Proverbs 9:9

“When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” – Proverbs 16:7

“Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.” – Proverbs 15:16

“How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!” – Proverbs 16:16

Dear brother, just read the book of Proverbs, and be blessed. There are hundreds of other Proverbs that can help make you a grand success in life.

Bible reading is an education in itself. – Lord Tennyson

Some people like to read so many [Bible] chapters every day. I would not dissuade them from the practice, but I would rather lay my soul asoak in half a dozen verses all day than rinse my hand in several chapters. Oh, to be bathed in a text of Scripture, and to let it be sucked up in your very soul, till it saturates your heart! – Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Reading the Bible without meditating on it is like trying to eat without swallowing. – Anonymous
